Top 5 Vocal VSTs

The human voice is often the element that a listener's ear will be most drawn to in a piece of music, so it's important for all music producers to have an assortment of vocal instruments in their creative arsenal. There are many different options to consider when selecting the right vocal instrument to complement your sound, but in this guide we will share with you a few of our favourite vocal tools. Read on below to discover our top 5 vocal VSTs.

Glaze 2

Glaze 2 from Native Instruments is a dynamic and punchy vocal instrument that is perfect for modern music production, especially for genres such as pop, r&b and hip hop. Glaze 2 is the sequel to the popular Glaze, and brings with it all of the wonderful features from the original plugin, and builds upon them with a diverse set of new sounds. As well as individual vocal lines, Glaze 2 contains special chord textures and stacks for unlocking new harmonic dimensions in your music. There are also several backing vocal presets which can be mapped to your keyboard. With over 150 presets to select from, Glaze 2 offers producers an unparalleled vocal soundset to work with, making it one of our top recommendations for vocal VSTs.

Vocal Factory

Vocal factory is the result of a collaboration between Zero-G samples and Xfonic, and is a collection containing over 4GB of sounds from 3 libraries, Vocal Foundry, Vocal Forge and Vocal India. The inclusion of these 3 libraries gives the Vocal Factory collection an incredible range in terms of the number of genres that it caters for, making it the perfect all-in-one vocal toolbox for producers who frequently work in multiple genres. Included across the 3 libraries within this collection are male and female MCs, RnB and soul singers, gothic, operatic and choral voices, as well as dance and pop vocals. Each library also includes a “Vocal Toolbox” kontakt instrument that allows you to create custom vocal stacks, loops and remixed vocals.

Ethera Gold Atlantis III

For those of you who are film composers, or write more cinematic styles of music, the Ethera Gold series are frequently seen as the pinnacle in terms of quality cinematic vocal instruments. There are several different vocal VSTs to choose from in the Ethera Gold series, but we think the Atlantis III is the true standout, and so makes it on our list of best vocal VSTs. Atlantis III is a female voice library, and has been expertly designed for use in cinematic music. There are 6 different voice models to select from and these can be combined or blended together to achieve your desired sound. There are also 16 different legato settings to choose from such as the evocatively titled Romantic True Legato and Elven True Legato to name a few. Each of these options gives a slightly different feel and tone to the voice. Thanks to these features, Atlantis III excels at delivering ethereal and magical sounding vocals, and is perfect for use in genres such as celtic, folk, medieval and epic fantasy music.

Vocaloid

Vocaloid is a fun and unique vocal synthesiser distributed by the Japanese giant Yamaha. Vocaloid allows users the ability to type in words and phrases and the synthesiser will then “sing” them back in a voice of the user's choosing. Vocaloid has been a prominent feature in genres such as  J-Pop, K-Pop, Hyperpop, Nightcore, although it is frequency being seen in other genres like rock and hip-hop. As well as its text-to-voice functionality, what sets Vocaloid apart is the diverse range of voices that are available. Users can purchase different voices or “characters” to add to their library. Each voice has a different visual avatar which helps to add more personality to the voice, and makes the experience of selecting our chosen voice quite fun. Due to its Japanese origins, it's clear that Vocaloid has been heavily influenced by anime, so this may be the perfect tool for producers who are interested in anime and Japanese culture. Originally Vocaloid operated as a standalone software, but in recent time it has been made as a VST so it can seamlessly integrate with your chosen DAW.

Output Arcade

Last but not least on our list of the best vocal VSTs we have Arcade from Output. Arcade is a sampler engine that combines a fun vibrant user interface and quality sounds together to create a very fun music creation experience. Since its launch a few years ago, Arcade has quickly established itself as a favourite tool by beat makers and producers, especially in the world of hip-hop and pop music production.

Arcade works by allowing users to load in different sampler banks, each of which have been carefully curated. What makes arcade a great vocal VST is that a lot of these sample banks are vocal based, or contain a large amount of vocal samples within them.

Users of Arcade will quickly discover that there are tons of wonderful vocal preset samples to work with. Arcade also makes it incredibly easy to import your own vocal samples, and has a range of features such as auto pitch shift to song key, spreading vocal samples across the keys on your keyboard, and in-built creative fx such as delay, flangers and phasers.

Overall, Arcade is the perfect tool for quick production as its samples sound great out of the box and you don’t have to spend ages tweaking sounds. Arcade is available by subscription and contains a huge range of sounds, not only limited to vocals, so we strongly recommend arcade to all producers who are looking to level up their game. That brings us to the end of our list of top 5 vocal VSTs. Have fun using these VSTs in your productions!
