Easy Songs To Sing For Beginners - Male

Singing is something that can bring immense joy and enrich our lives. For beginners however the prospect of learning how to sing can be very daunting, particularly in the age of social media when we are bombarded by the talents of singers across the world.

It can be very helpful to start with some basic songs to practice and develop our technique from there. In this article we share with you some of the best songs for guys to sing if they are looking to practice and improve their singing technique.

Backstreet Boys - I Want It That Way

The 1999 monster hit from Backstreet Boys is a great song for men to practice their singing. The song follows the traditional pop song structure, and uses repeating melodic phrases that make remembering the vocal parts very simple. This song also features a key change in the climatic chorus section, giving you an opportunity to practice changing keys in the middle of a song, a vital skill for any budding vocalist.

Melodically this song stays within quite a fixed range so it should be comfortable for most voice types. As with many songs from boy bands, there are multiple vocal parts present in the song, so if you are struggling to match the range of the lead vocal you could try one of the supporting vocal parts instead.

The Beatles - Hey Jude

The Beatles are responsible for some of the most recognisable songs in music history, making their catalog a treasure trove of catchy and accessible songs for men who want to practice their singing. Just like with our previous entry on this list, Hey Jude doesn't push the vocal range too much and is a comfortable fit for most male voice types.

Hey Jude contains a simple repeated melody, making this an easy song to pick up and remember. It  also features a long section where the main melody is sung as “na na na na” rather than lyrics, which will allow you to practice your pitch and delivery without having to worry about getting the words right.

Oasis - Wonderwall

Legendary Manchester band Oasis were a force to be reckoned with in the 1990s, dropping several massive hits across their career. Their song Wonderwall has become a standout favourite due to its accessible lyrics and iconic vocal performance from Liam Gallagher.

Wonderwall is an easy song to sing as the vocal range is fairly limited, and the main melody of the verses is mostly based around one note. In the chorus sections the vocal range is pushed slightly higher but still within a comfortable range. Wonderwall is a great feel-good song for practicing your technique and building your singing confidence to tackle more challenging pieces in the future.

Neil Diamond - Sweet Caroline

Neil Diamond's Sweet Caroline is a beloved and well known song that has been a mainstay of karaoke bars and pubs for decades. Its combination of easy-to-remember lyrics, accessible vocal range and catchy hook has made it a go-to song for people to sing along to when they have had a few drinks.

Thanks to these qualities, Sweet Caroline is also a great choice for Men who are vocal beginners and looking to develop their abilities. Sweet Caroline is especially useful for practicing your vocal projection as its iconic chorus is most often sung at a high volume. This song has become quite iconic in the UK thanks to its frequent use as an accompanying song to sports events such as football and rugby matches.

Blink 182 - I Miss You

Pop-Punk band Blink 182 have enamoured fans thanks to their catchy songwriting and playful vocal interplay between the two vocalists Tom Delonge and Mark Hoppus. “I Miss You” from their 2033 self-titled album has become one of their most iconic and memorable songs, and is a great song for Men to sing when they are starting out.

The song features both vocalists, with the deeper-voiced Mark Hoppus singing the verses, and higher pitched voice Tom Delonge taking the lead chorus parts. This is a really fun song to sing with friends as a duet, or if you are feeling adventurous you can try and sing both vocal parts to practice your range and switching between registers.

Frank Sinatra - My Way

Last on our list of easy male vocal songs for beginners, we have something a bit more old-school. Frank Siantra is revered for his silky voice and classically american delivery, and nowhere is this more apparent than on his revered song “May Way”.

My Way is sung in a “Crooner” style which emphasises a smooth and warm vocal sound, rather than powerful belts. Practising this song will allow you to work on your pitch and tone whilst also not pushing your voice too hard. My Way is also a great song for building your confidence as it combines many of the fundamental singing techniques together such as breath control, phrasing, diction and vibrato.
