Best Free Plugins For Vocals

When it comes to selecting plugins for your vocal production, it can often feel like you have to invest lots of money in order to get top quality results. However, this isn't always the case, and with a little research you will find that there are many excellent free options available. In this blog post we share with you some of the best free plugins for vocals.

MeldaProduction - MFreeFXBundle

To kick things off we have the free FX bundle from Melda Production. This bundle contains 38 plugins in total, making it a very diverse and dynamic collection to add to your production arsenal.

Some of the vocal-specific tools contained in this bundle include MAutopitch (pitch correction), MAutoPan (Autopan plugin), MConvultionEZ (Convolution reverb plugin) and MCompressor (powerful compressor).

We recommend exploring all of the tools contained in this collection and seeing how they can fit into your vocal production workflow.

Analogue Obsession - LA LA

LALA from Analogue Obsession is a free compression tool that seeks to emulate the legendary sound of the Teletronix LA-2A compressor. The LA-2A is a classic hardware compressor that has been featured on countless hits throughout the decades.

LALA has a very smooth and warm sound that is perfect for adding extra character and punch to your vocal tracks. In addition to the standard compression parameters there are also a few extra features such as external sidechaining, high-pass filter, and also the ability to select how sensitive the compressor is across different frequency ranges - (MF / MG: – Sets the compressor sensitivity for the mid frequencies. HF: Will select the compressor sensitivity for the high frequencies).

Softube Saturation

The Softube Saturation Knob is a free saturation plugin that is perfect for adding harmonics to a vocal track and making your vocals sound fatter.

Softube Saturation does not have many settings to choose from, making it one of the more simple plugins on this list, but don't let this simplicity fool you. When used correctly the Softube Saturation can be a secret weapon when it comes to mixing your vocal tracks and crafting stunning productions.

You can experiment with higher amounts of saturation to add grit to your vocal tracks and give a more lo-fi, vintage vocal sound.

Valhalla SuperMassive

Next up in our list of best free plugins for vocals we are taking a trip to valhalla. No we don't mean the viking afterlife, but rather the wondrous and evocative sounds of the Valhalla SuperMassive reverb plugin.

Valhalla have made a name for themselves as creators of sublime reverb plugins and with SuperMassive they have upheld the quality of sound that they are known for. Even though this plugin is free it isn't at all lacking compared to some of its paid-for reverb relatives. Valhalla SuperMassive focuses on delivering long and spacious reverb sounds, making it an excellent tool for creating atmospheric vocals. We particularly like SuperMassive when it is used almost as a “special effect” to create a more dreamy and dramatic vocal.

Experiment with the different SuperMassive presets and find the right setting that matches the vocals in your song.

Izotope Vinyl

Last up on our list of the best free plugins for vocals we have the mighty Izotope Vinyl. This is a simple-yet-powerful vinyl emulation plugin, that allows you make anything sound like it's being played on an old vinyl record.

Where Izotope Vinyl shines is for creating vintage, old-school vocals that are dripping with character and nostalgic vibes. There are a range of settings that can be tweaked which lets you dial in the sound to your exact taste. Users can even select how “dusty” they want the sound to be, which is honestly an insanely cool feature. We recommend using Izotope Vinyl on clean vocals to add warmth and texture.

Thanks for checking out this blog post! That brings us to the end of our list of the best free plugins for vocals. Have fun playing with these plugins and discovering new techniques to use on your next vocal production.
